Today Kaiser Chiefs shared their first new music in over a year, accompanied by an Instagram post that described their upcoming sixth album ‘Stay Together’ as their “relationship album”. The same post called their most recent album, 2014’s ‘Education, Education, Education & War’, as their “protest album” – although you get the feeling that their previous albums ‘Yours Truly, Angry Mob’ and ‘Off With Their Heads’ could probably have contended for that title too.
The important thing is, with this statement Kaiser Chiefs have made clear the huge shift in their approach to making music. Though last year’s comparatively indie single ‘Falling Awake’ was believed to be featuring on the new album, it seems like it’s been retrospectively made a standalone release. The reason for this seems to be that the Leeds band has been working with Xenomania producer Brian Higgins to produce their new songs. Higgins is behind hits like Cher’s ‘Believe’, Girls Aloud’s ‘Biology’ and Gabriella Cilmi’s ‘Sweet About Me’. Understandably, ‘Parachute’ sounds quite different – ‘Oh My God’ this is not. It’s dance pop with no apologies. Take a listen below:
A couple of months ago singer Ricky Wilson, who has been a judge on The Voice in recent years, explained, “These are love songs, but people always write about the shooting-star moment in love songs. This album is about sticking together and making it work – longevity and loyalty. It’s a celebration of monogamy, which might sound uncool – I’m putting myself out there by doing that – but it’s how I feel.” Check out the fan reaction below.
There have been numerous comparisons to Take That:
New @KaiserChiefs song sounds like take that. What has being on The Voice done to Ricky Wilson. @RadioX

Others aren’t sure about the sound of Ricky Wilson’s vocals:
That Kaiser Chiefs song would be quite nice if the vocal didn't sound like someone left a dehumidifer on
