Grimes’ 2015 album ‘Art Angels’ is a freak-pop masterpiece and ‘Kill V. Maim’ is surely one of its most combustible cuts. “[It’s] written from the perspective of Al Pacino in The Godfather Part II,” Claire Boucher told Q last year. “Except he’s a vampire who can switch gender and travel through space.” A track as thrillingly unique as ‘Kill V. Maim’ deserves a properly full throttle remix, and it’s got one courtesy of Jimmy Urine from US industrial punk outfit Mindless Self Indulgence. When she shared the remix on Twitter earlier today, Grimes described him as “one of my biggest influences as a producer”.
Cool new remix of KVM by one of my biggest influences as a producer, @jimmyurine ! ?????? https://t.co/9KuKctrC8H

Jimmy Urine’s ferocious remix works so brilliantly because it’s driven by the propulsive energy of Grimes’ original track. The MSI man really amps up the beats, adds loads of lashing guitar riffs and isn’t afraid to fiddle with Grimes’ vocals either: in places, she sounds like an alien (or maybe Al Pacino as a gender fluid vampire); at other times she could almost be duetting with a guy. In short, it’s a total blast which will make you want to do anything but B-E-H-A-V-E. Give it a listen below – and check out Grimes’ recent NME cover feature here.
