'Kick-Ass' and 'Scott Pilgrim' also win big at movie magazine's bash
Inception was the big winner at this year’s Empire Awards ceremony last night (March 27).
Christopher Nolan‘s dreamscape thriller scooped the title of Best Film ahead of strong competition. It beat rivals Kick-Ass, The Social Network, Scott Pilgrim Versus The World and The King’s Speech.
Superhero comedy Kick-Ass did win two awards: the Best British Film and Best Newcomer gong for Chloe Moretz.
Edgar Wright won Best Director for Scott Pilgrim Versus The World as well a a special ‘Inspiration’ prize. The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo‘s Noomi Rapace won the Best Actress gong, while the film was proclaimed Best Thriller.
The King’s Speech‘s Colin Firth picked up the Best Actor gong. “I was going to thank my friends at the King’s Speech table, but apparently there is no King’s Speech table so to hell with them,” he quipped.
He added: “I’m with my new friends at the Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy table, which I haven’t seen yet but I’m sure it will be a masterpiece.”
Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows: Part One won Best Sci-Fi/Fantasy, Four Lions picked up Best Comedy, with The Last Exorcism getting Best Horror.
