James Corden’s dad has responded to a negative ‘Peter Rabbit’ review

Corden voices the titular rabbit in the recent Beatrix Potter movie

James Corden‘s dad has responded to a negative review of the Peter Rabbit movie.

The TV host and actor provided the voice for the titular rabbit in the film, which was the first big-screen adaptation of the Beatrix Potter book.

Not everyone was a fan of the project, though, with the BBC’s Mark Kermode calling Corden’s performance “appallingly irritating”. Malcolm Corden was not happy with his assessment of his son, and sent a letter to the critic’s 5Live show.

Kermode’s co-host Simon Mayo read out the letter, which said: “To hear you describe our son as ‘appallingly irritating’ was very difficult to listen to. One sincerely hopes that you never have to hear someone else describe your children as such, especially live on air, and especially as it seemed James was the only one drawn out for any criticism.”

The film reviewer pointed out that his comments about Corden were about his performance in the film and nothing more, as Metro reports. His father had more criticism for Kermode, however, noting that he had described The Greatest Showman as “very poor”, but Malcolm and his wife had both enjoyed it.

“I have to commend you guys for your excellent broadcasting skills over many years,” Malcolm continued. “Funny, engaging, informative and usually – barring when you review our son and Hugh Jackman – a most uplifting way to spend a Friday afternoon. Thank you both.”

Kermode responded to the message by saying: “I believe my parents have heard me called much worse things than appallingly irritating.”

Meanwhile, Corden recently entered into a rap battle with Dame Helen Mirren during the ‘Drop The Mic’ segment of his The Late Late Show.

Mirren fired back at his disses, rapping: “I’m the one you should fear wherever I go/If I’m a pain in your ass that leaves a lot of room to grow”. Later, she accused Corden of being “obsessed with my exes”, adding: “Sorry James I’m not single/But you know I taught your little mister to tingle.
