Adele has the first million-selling single of the decade

'Someone Like You' reaches landmark figure

Adele‘s ‘Someone like You’ has become the first single to sell over one million copies in the UK this decade.

The single, taken from the album ’21’, spent four weeks at the top spot in the singles chart in February. After being displaced it returned again to the top spot in March.

‘Someone Like You’ becomes one of only 16 singles since 2000 to hit one million sales, the last two being ‘Poker Face’ by Lady Gaga and ‘I Gotta Feeling’ by Black Eyed Peas.

Earlier this year Adele‘s second album, ’21’, accounted for one in every 10 albums bought in the UK.

Martin Talbot, managing director of the Official Charts Company, commented: “With an almost certain Mercury Prize nomination and ’21”s first Christmas season to come, I suspect her record-breaking antics are not over yet.”

Adele was recently named the most powerful person in the music industry by The Guardian.
