Arctic Monkeys score biggest selling vinyl album of 2014 so far

Vinyl sales on course to exceed 2013's

Arctic Monkeys‘ ‘AM’ is the biggest selling vinyl album of 2014 so far.

The Official Charts Company has compiled a chart of the Top 20 strongest selling albums on vinyl in the first four months of the year, with the Sheffield band coming out on top. Sales for the record have been boosted with the group claimed the Band Of The Year and Album Of The Year awards at the BRIT Awards in February.

Elsewhere in the chart, Mogwai’s ‘Rave Tapes’ is at Number Two, while Warpaint’s self-titled second album is at Number Five. The recently released ‘Going Back Home’ by Wilko Johnson and Roger Daltrey also features in the Top Ten, at Number Ten. You can view the full Top 20 on the Official Charts Company website.

Last year saw 790,000 vinyl albums being sold in the UK – a figure which looks set to be topped in 2014. Vinyl sales have had their best start this year in more than a decade, with sales already one third of the way to matching 2013’s after just 15 weeks. The Official Charts Company is now predicting 900,000 vinyl albums will be sold in total this year, if sales continue at their current rate.

Yesterday, the top selling albums in the UK’s independent record stores since last year’s Record Store Day were revealed. Arctic Monkeys claimed the top spot on that list too, with Daft Punk and Vampire Weekend also featuring in the Top 40.
