Doves are set to play a headlining tour of the UK during May 2002, their first major jaunt since autumn 2000.

The first date is at London’s Astoria on February 21 with guests The Music, one of the NME Carling Shows at the venue during February. Following support shows with Travis in the UK, the three-piece will then kick off seven headlining shows in Leeds on April 30.

And after the best part of a year, the band are almost finished their new album, the follow-up to 2000 debut ‘Lost Souls’. In a posting on their website www.doves.net, drummer Andy Williams said: “At the moment we’re mixing tracks in Brixton and we’re all really happy with the way it’s shaping up. We’re hoping to have everything finished for the end of January [2002], then we can surrender the tapes to Heavenly (the band’s record label).
