'I want to do something great,' insists rapper
Drake has revealed that he wants to play US President Barack Obama in a film about the politician’s life.
The rapper, who made his breakthrough in the entertainment business with a role in the Canadian television series Degrassi: The Next Generations and released his second studio album ‘Take Care’ in November last year, told VH1 News that it was his ambition to portray Obama on the big screen.
Speaking at the Sundance Film Festival, he said:
I hope somebody makes a movie about Obama’s life soon because I could play him. That’s the goal. I watch all the addresses. Any time I seen him on TV, I don’t change the channel. I definitely pay attention and listen to the inflections of his voice. If you ask anyone who knows me, I’m pretty good at impressions.
He went on to claim that he was holding out for big movie roles, adding: “I’ve been reading scripts for a while. I want to do something great. I want to do something for my culture: the younger people who are still in tune with everything going on. I’m actually writing with my friends right now.”
In addition to his acting ambitions, Drake has recently found himself in-demand in the music business, too, with both Justin Bieber and Florence And The Machine eager to collaborate with the rapper in the future.
Drake will play a nine-date arena tour of the UK later this year. Taking place in March and April, the Canadian hip-hop artist will kick off the run of shows at London O2 Arena on March 26, finishing up at Nottingham Capital FM Arena on April 25.
