The rapper picks up three awards, plays live twice and slags off his peers..

Controversial rapper Eminem has won three MTV VIDEO MUSIC AWARDS.

The 17th annual awards took place last night (September 7) at Radio City Music Hall in New York. Eminem won awards for Best Male Video and Video Of The Year for ‘The Real Slim Shady’, and Best Rap Video for his single with Dr Dre, ‘Forget About Dre’.

He also performed ‘The Real Slim Shady’ and ‘The Way I Am’ live, introduced by comedian Jim Carrey. As he introduced the rapper, Carrey said: “He scares me a little. I’ve got to be honest – I enjoy his music, but he scares me.”


Speaking to [url=]www.mtv.com prior to the awards ceremony, Eminem emphasised his hatred for pop acts such as Christina Aguilera and *N Sync, who were also at the awards, by saying “This is the one night where you can fit all the people that I don’t like into one room.”

Other award winners included US teen band *N Sync, who also won three awards – as did the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Blink 182, Macy Gray and Bjvrk were also recognised. Bjvrk won two awards for Best Special Effects and Breakthrough Video for ‘All Is Full Of Love’.
