Brian May and Roger Taylor guest on the boyband's version of the classic 'We Will Rock You'...
The band release their cover of ‘We Will Rock You’ on July 17 through RCA. The reworked track, which originally reached number 2 in 1977 for Queen, was premiered at this year’s Brit Awards, and features original Queen members guitarist Brian May and drummer Roger Taylor.
A spokesperson for the band told nme.com that the pair liked Five‘s reworking of the track so much they wanted to record it as a single. She said: “It’s all very Five to be honest, the chorus is rapped and Brian May‘s guitar gives the sound a real power.”
Other tracks on the single include a “megamix” of the band’s old material, as well as a remix of their number one hit ‘Keep On Movin”, re-recorded for the Euro 2000 football championships. The spokesperson added: “It’s an anthemic remix, a real football song. There is football commentary over the top and crowds singing the chorus. It’s good timing!”
In other Five news, singer J has slammed claims that he and girlfriend Mel C are dating as a publicity stunt, insisting that the pair are in love. Speaking to The Sun newspaper today (June 13), J said: “These stories piss me off. Our relationship is not a PR stunt…Mel C is my girlfriend.
“I can tell you she stayed round at my flat last night, and that wasn’t a publicity stunt…we’re both northern and have a great sense of humour…I can talk to her about anything.”
Five make two open-air live appearances this summer at the Cardiff Castle (July 22) and London Hyde Park (23). The band are also lining up an arena tour for December.
