Florence + the Machine have spoken for the first time since being confirmed as the new headliners for Glastonbury Festival 2015, saying they are “honoured” to be replacing Foo Fighters on the bill.
A picture of Florence Welch and bandmate Isabella Summers with Dave Grohl was posted to the band’s official Instagram page this evening (June 17) with a caption in which the group say they are “so sorry to hear that the Foo Fighters have had to pull out of Glastonbury, we met Dave Grohl a few years back and he was the nicest guy ever.”
The short message continues: “We are honoured to have been asked to step in, and we hope we will be able to give you as good a Friday night as the Foo’s would have. Sending all our love and well wishes to Dave.”
The announcement was made this morning (June 17) after the news that Foo Fighters had cancelled their headline slot after Dave Grohl broke his leg in Sweden over the weekend.

An official statement from Glastonbury and Emily Eavis reads: “We’re very pleased to announce that Florence + the Machine will play the Friday night Pyramid headline slot, which Foo Fighters were forced to withdraw from yesterday.”

Eavis added: “Once we heard the sad news that Foo Fighters had been forced to pull out, there was only one person we wanted to call and that was Florence. Every time she has played here she’s done something spectacular and we always knew she would headline the Pyramid one day. I’m delighted she’s agreed to step up to it – she’s going to smash it!”
Florence + the Machine were already booked to play directly before Foo Fighters at the festival and have been promoted to headliner status. Recent examples of Glastonbury headliners pulling out of the festival include U2 in 2010, who were replaced by Gorillaz, and Kylie Minogue in 2005, who was replaced by Basement Jaxx.
