Haim and Diplo model USA World Cup kit

Musicians join footballers, athletes and film makers in showing off national strip

Haim and Diplo have joined USA footballers modelling the strip the national team will wear in this summer’s World Cup.

The kit is available from April 1 and features three bands representing the colours of the American flag. Nike launched the strip by getting a number of athletes including NFL players Andrew Luck and Ndamukong Suh alongside Haim and Major Lazer producer Diplo plus film maker Spike Lee to model the kit.

US soccer players Clint Dempsey and Sydney Leroux also wear the kit, which includes a pennant tab inside the collar featuring 13 red and white stripes to represent the original 13 colonies that declared independence and formed the first states.

“I like the patriotic design and color scheme and I think it will look great on the pitch,” said USA captain Dempsey. “Hopefully they will serve us well as we head into a competitive group.”

Tweeting about their involvement in the kit launch, Alana Haim wrote: “Was missing my first love… #GOUSA”.

The 2014 World Cup kicks off in Brazil on June 12. USA will play in Group G alongside Germany, Portugal and Ghana.
