Tribute gig for Jack White bandmate Ikey Owens to be held in Texas

The event will take place on December 1

A tribute gig for the late Ikey Owens, who was a member of The Mars Volta and recently played keyboard for Jack White, is to be held in Texas next month.

Songs In The Key Of Ikey Owens will take place on December 1 and is free to attend. It will feature performances by Austin and Long Beach musicians that worked with Owens. Jack White and members of Owens’ family have also provided commemorative brass pins and booklets for the event.

The 38-year-old musician passed away while on tour with White in Mexico last month from a heart attack.

News of Isaiah ‘Ikey’ Owens’ passing was announced on Jack White’s official website, via a statement which read: “It is with great sadness that we tell the world of the passing of the incredible musician Isaiah ‘Ikey’ Owens. He will be missed and loved forever by his family, friends, bandmates and fans.”

Meanwhile, White recently paid further tribute to Owens at his O2 Arena headline show this month (November 19). Dedicating the show to the keyboard player, White stated that the gig was for “all the beautiful people we’ve lost this year”.
