Odd Future’s Tyler, The Creator: ‘I’m the biggest troll of 2011’

Rapper boasts about tricking people with Earl Sweatshirt hoax

Tyler, The Creator has declared that he is the biggest internet troll of 2011.

The rapper said he should be given an award for his online wind-ups, after he tricked fans into believing that Odd Future member Earl Sweatshirt had returned to Los Angeles.

Sweatshirt, whose real name is Thebe Kgositsile, is currently staying at the Coral Reef Academy on the South Pacific island of American Samoa, but Tyler told a fan on Formspring who asked him whether his bandmate had returned home: “Yeah he is, landed in LA today”.

He and Odd Future member Sage Elesser then exchanged messages on Twitter discussing his return, but a representative for the band later told Pitchfork that it had been a hoax.

Tyler then took to Twitter to boast about his prank, writing:

Thebe Said That I Need The Award For Biggest Troll Of 2011.

He later posted another message in which he stated “Wanted To Tell You Guys Again That I Am Troll Of 2011”, before revealing that his actions had pleased Sweatshirt, adding: “Thebe Is Trending? Sick! He’s Stoked Haha, Awkward For Him.”

Tyler, The Creator and Odd Future have been surrounded by controversy this year. Earlier this month, Canadian duo Tegan and Sara reignited their war of words with Tyler and insisted he could not defend himself from accusations of misogyny and homophobia.

Meanwhile, band member ‘Left Brain’, real name Vyron Turner, was charged with assault after he allegedly slapped female photographer Amy Harris at the Voodoo Experience festival in New Orleans last month (October 30).

Earlier this week, however, Tyler, The Creator insisted that he wanted to mature with his next album and claimed that “talking about rape and cutting up bodies” didn’t interest him anymore.
