Odds on Stormzy getting Christmas Number One cut following ‘Shut Up’ boxing performance

Grime artist begins campaign after performing track before Anthony Joshua fight on Saturday

Grime MC Stormzy has launched a campaign to get his track ‘Shut Up’ to the top of the UK Singles Chart for Christmas, with bookmakers slashing odds on the likelihood of the prospect.

The London artist originally aired the song in a freestyle earlier this year, with the studio version later peaking at Number 18 upon release in September. It was Stormzy’s first Top 40 hit and the first ever freestyle to chart in the UK Top 40.

Following his appearance at boxer Anthony Joshua’s British heavyweight title fight against Dillian Whyte on Saturday (December 12) where he performed ‘Shut Up’ live as Joshua entered the ring, Stormzy has now urged fans to get the track to the top spot, writing on Twitter: ‘Bun X Factor!’

Speaking to Lad Bible, Stormzy said of the campaign: “I don’t know, man. I’m a bit crazy so sometimes I just get these mad ideas that, on paper, aren’t even possible. But in my head I just think ‘yeah, fuck it, let’s do it.'”

Asked what he would do if he did get to Number One, he responded: “I’d have a party and pop some bottles and make a video being like “aaaaahaha fuck it”. I’m all about the banter, that’s my problem.”

Bookmakers Coral have now slashed the odds of Stormzy getting to the top spot to 10/1, ahead of Adele (25/1) but trailing X Factor winner Louisa Johnson (8/11) and Justin Bieber (5/1).
