Gaslight Anthem Brian Fallon to release debut solo album ‘Painkillers’ in 2016

US band went on hiatus this summer in order to pursue new opportunities

Gaslight Anthem frontman Brian Fallon will release a solo album early in 2016.

‘Painkillers’ is Fallon’s first solo album and his first since Gaslight Anthem embarked on a hiatus earlier this year, and it will be released through Virgin/EMI in the United Kingdom.

According to a press release, ‘Painkillers’ will be completed later this year in Nashville with producer Butch Walker (Taylor Swift, Frank Turner, Keith Urban).

“I’m overjoyed to be making this solo record,” says Fallon. “And I can’t wait to go out on the road with the new songs I have as well as to get to play the ‘Elsie’ album [by The Horrible Crowes’, Brian’s side-project] live again!”

Details of a US tour have been announced, with Fallon set to perform with a band consisting of Gaslight Anthem guitarist Alex Rosamilia plus his bandmate in The Horrible Crowes’, Ian Perkins, and Molly & The Zombies bassist Catherine Popper. Their live dates begin in Portland on January 7 with a world tour expected once the album is out.

The Gaslight Anthem announced plans to go on an indefinite hiatus this summer. They released latest album ‘Get Hurt’ in 2014 and played their last UK date at Reading Festival in August.

The band explained in a statement that they didn’t want to make another album “just for the sake” of it. “We’d like to recharge and take a step back until we have something we feel excited about rather than going right back to making a record just for the sake of making the next record,” they said at the time. “We all feel this is the best decision we can make and it feels like the right one for us.”
