Ryan Gosling has stated that he is confused by becoming a viral hit, comparing the ‘Hey Girl’ meme to being hit in the face by pigeon.
Gosling has been the focus of many internet memes, including the ‘Ryan Gosling Won’t Eat His Cereal’ series of clips. The ‘Hey Girl’ meme couples photos of the actor with cheesy phrases.
Variety now reports that Gosling claims to have “never said” the phrase, adding of the endless memes: “It’s a big surprise when they show up on the web.”
His La La Land co-star Emma Stone seemed equally as confused, telling the actor: “I don’t even understand. I mean, you’re great but why have you become this — why?”
Gosling then compared the situation to being hit in the face by a bird. “Do you remember when [male model] Fabio got hit in the face with a pigeon on the roller coaster and it broke his nose. Sometimes I feel like I’m the pigeon and the internet is Fabio’s face. Actually, I don’t know if I’m the pigeon or I’m Fabio’s face. Depends on the day, I guess.” It was actually a goose that broke Fabio’s nose, not a pigeon.

Meanwhile, Gosling is set to star in the upcoming Blade Runner sequel, which is currently in the works.
