Earlier this year, it was reported a planned expansion for Hogwarts Legacy was scrapped so developers could focus on a “high priority” sequel. The original plan was for the game to launch alongside the HBO adaptation of Harry Potter which is due to launch in 2027.

However, following Netflix’s $82.7billion takeover of Warner Bros Discovery, the future of Hogwarts Legacy is uncertain with Netflix’s co-CEO Gregory Peters admitting that the streamer has no immediate plans for any of Warner Bros.’ game studios. “They’ve got great folks working there. So we think that there’s definitely an opportunity there,” he explained. “But just to be clear, we haven’t built that into our deal model.”
