Kasabian compare Glastonbury to Super Mario as they premiere Summer Solstice gig footage in London

Band stage Q+A in Leicester Square ahead of Victoria Park gig footage

Kasabian‘s Tom Meighan and Serge Pizzorno took part in a Q&A before a screening of their recent Leicester gig at Leicester Square’s Vue cinema on Wednesday (July 16).

The Q&A and film of Kasabian’s Summer Solstice gig in Victoria Park, Leicester was live streamed to 10 other cinemas around the country simultaneously. The gig was described by the band as “their Knebworth” and took place in their hometown 10 years after the release of their self-titled debut album and one week before their Glastonbury headline slot.

The Q&A saw Pizzorno in typically amusing form, comparing headlining Glastonbury to a computer game, stating: “When you finish Mario; it’s like I need a new game, what’s next?”

Speaking about Glastonbury, Meighan said “We came to Glasto, we took it, we caned it and it was ours. Metallica did a great job as a heavy metal band, Arcade Fire did ‘okay’, but to work so fucking hard – me, Serge and the rest of the band – all of us got there on the Pyramid Stage and… who’s ever seen Glastonbury do that before?”

Meighan introduced the film by saying “I met Sergio when I was 17. He said, ‘Join my rock band. I know you’re a bit weird and sing a lot but it will fucking work’ and this is the outcome.”

The film acts as a straight live recording rather than a documentary with no backstage interviews of the band included.

Kasabian will hit the road in November and into December for a run of gigs, including five shows at O2 Academy Brixton in London on December 1, 2, 4, 5 and 6. The Maccabees will support them on all dates.
