Lil Nas X‘s recent hit single ‘Montero (Call Me By Your Name)’ has returned to streaming services after it was briefly taken down yesterday (April 13).
In a series of tweets yesterday, the rapper asked his fans to check if the track was still available to stream on Apple Music in their respective countries. He then retweeted replies from fans who were unable to stream the song.
“Not even joking,” he wrote in one tweet, which you can see below. “Everybody stream ‘call me by your name’ hard today because it may no longer be available tomorrow and there’s nothing i can really do about it. thanks for all the support tho!”

The reason for the track’s removal from streaming services remains unclear. NME has reached out to representatives of Lil Nas X for further comment, though his label Columbia Records acknowledged the issue in a tweet last night.
“It’s unfortunately out of our control but we are doing everything possible to keep the song up on streaming services,” the label said. “We will keep you up to date as we hear more. Thank you for understanding.”

Lil Nas X later added that he wasn’t “placing any blame on the streaming services” and asked his fans to keep him updated on the availability of ‘Montero (Call Me By Your Name)’.

At the time of writing (11am UK time on April 14), ‘Montero (Call Me By Your Name)’ is available to listen to on streaming services in the UK.
Earlier this month, ‘Montero (Call Me By Your Name)’ scored Lil Nas X his second UK Number One single. The song has, however, been caught up in controversy since its release, partially due to the religious imagery used in the video. Right-wing voices criticised Lil Nas X for using scenes based on the Garden of Eden and in which he gives the devil a lap dance.
The star has also been accused of copying elements of the video from FKA Twigs’ visuals for ‘Cellophane’. Both Lil Nas X and FKA Twigs have addressed the claims, with the latter thanking the rapper for acknowledging his inspiration in a conversation with her.
Last week it was announced that pairs of ‘Satan shoes’ endorsed by Lil Nas X, which allegedly contained a drop of human blood, are to be recalled following a lawsuit from Nike.
